Just Like TV

Did you watch The Littles in the 80’s?  It is a cartoon that aired during the early-mid 80’s. Basic premise – a population of tiny people exists and only a 12-yr old boy knows about them. They live in the walls of his house and he helps them when they get into trouble.

Juliana has been working her way through many cartoons on Netflix. Yesterday she needed something new to watch so I flipped through some of the recommendations and found The Littles. I told her that I watched it when I was a kid. I also took the opportunity to explain that when I was her age we could only watch cartoons on Saturday mornings and we didn’t have movies on computers or Netflix, etc. And we had to walk up to the TV to change the channel because we didn’t even have a remote. Her eyes got big and she told me she is very lucky that we have all of that stuff now.

She watched several episodes of The Littles throughout the day and enjoyed them. As I was getting the boys ready for bed last night she came into their room and told me that she thinks that The Littles are real and some of them live in our house so she sent them a note. My mind instantly flashed back to watching the cartoons as a child and I remembered how the boy in the show sent notes to The Littles.

So I asked her if she put the notes into a vent and that is of course what she did. She wrote a few notes and slipped them into the cold air return in her bedroom so that they would find the notes and come play with her. I love her imagination…and we had a little talk about vents.
