It’s About the Journey Not the Destination

Wyatt loves to go and he doesn’t care where you are going as long as it isn’t home. Some recent conversations with Wyatt.

At home
Wy: I want to go bye-bye
W: I want to go bye-bye
W: I want to go bye-bye (repeat 12 more times while pulling on my arm)
Me: Wyatt, you want to go bye-bye?
W: Yes
M: Where do you want to go?
W: I want to go bye-bye
W: I want to go bye-bye Mommy (repeat many times while climbing on me)
M: Wyatt, where do you want to go?
W: I want to go bye-bye in the van.
W: C’mon Mommy, Let’s go bye-bye

Driving home from dinner one night

M: Wyatt it is night-night time, we need to go home
W: I don’t want to go home
M: Where do you want to go?
W: I want to go see the animals Mommy
M: What animals?
W: I want to go see the animals

M: The zoo is closed and the animals are sleeping

Driving home from the grocery store
W: I don’t want to go home
M: We need to go home so I can put the groceries away
W: I will wait in the car
M: But Wyatt we are staying at home
W: I will wait in the car
Arrived home and Wyatt and Ruslan sat in the van while I unloaded the groceries and then Ru decided to get out. Wyatt sat in the van for a while happily playing with the grocery store receipt. Eventually I coaxed him out and into the house.

W: We are not going to our house?
M: No Wyatt, we are not going to our house
W: I want pizza and french fries

Wyatt loves the car, he loves going bye-bye and he doesn’t care where we are going. And I assure you he does not hate our house…in fact his first words to me each morning are generally “It’s not a school day Mommy, let’s play!”
