When Wyatt asked for Brer Rabbit at Disney World, I wasn’t thrilled about adding another stuffed animal to the many in our home, but it was his money to spend. I thought that it would be like the others – loved for a week and then discarded. Instead Bunny Bunny, his official name, has become Wyatt’s constant companion.
When we boarded the flight to come home from Florida, Wyatt sat in his seat and asked for his blankie and Bunny Bunny. Eventually Wyatt fell asleep using Bunny Bunny as a pillow.
When we read stories at night, Bunny Bunny sits up and listens to the stories as well. And sometimes Wyatt reads another story with him before they fall asleep.
They snuggle together and watch movies.
Bunny Bunny gets to play the drums and ride the plasma car with Wyatt.
Last week as I was getting Wyatt ready for bed he told me that Bunny Bunny wanted pjs. So I found an old t-shirt and told Wyatt that bunnies wear nightgowns to sleep. He told me that Bunny Bunny was very happy and they hopped into bed together.
My Dad took some pictures of Wyatt and Bunny Bunny. It’s difficult to capture a true, happy Wyatt – he stares or cheese smiles or sticks out his tongue for the camera and even when he smiles, it isn’t that real Wyatt smile. The last picture in this series is 100% Wyatt – it makes me happy every time I look at it. This is the Wyatt that I know, but most people don’t get to see.
It looks like Bunny Bunny is going to be a favorite for a while.
